wymondham town council by-election – may 2025
Joe Ellis-Gage was our brilliant candidate for the vacancy on Wymondham Town Council, following the resignation, due to health reasons, of our previous councillor Joe Barrett. We came second, with more votes than the Lib Dems and Labour put together.
The Town Council clerk decided there would be no Polling Cards which we think contributed to a huge percentage of voters being postal.
The results were :
62.46% Postal voters. 24.7% turnout.

Our present councillor Paul Barrett is very actively involved with Greening Wymondham, Sustainable Wymondham, as well as 3 local charities which support with winter fuel payments, helping lower income students with educational support and a feeding the homeless.
He has also stepped in to save Rothbury Community Hall as well as ad-hoc resident issues such as overgrown hedges, disabled access to parks and community noticeboards.
our first district councillor – suzanne wins bunwell by-election may 2024
Due to the sad death of conservative district councillor Stephen Ridley a by-election was called in Bunwell and we campaigned hard with our brilliant candidate Suzanne Wateridge.
Bunwell is one of the 6 wards in South Norfolk that is within the Waveney Valley constituency which we were aiming to get Adrian Ramsay elected as an MP so it was important to build the green vote and we had lots of help!
west depwade by-election july 2023 : catherine rowett – our first county councillor
Due to to the sad sudden death of Barry Duffin the County Councillor for West Depwade (see map below) a by-election was called for 13th July.
West Depwade is made up of 16 villages between Diss and Wymondham including Bressingham, Burston, Aslacton, Ashwellthorpe, Forncett, Winfarthing, Tibenham, Dickleburgh and the Tivetshalls. 13 of these villages are in the Waveney Valley constituency where Adrian Ramsay is a national Green Party target for MP. So this was a crucial campaign!
Catherine Rowett was selected and won the seat!

2023 District council elections
In the 2023 District Council elections we chose Wymondham as our target ward. There were 2 seats available as well as 2 Town Council seats.
We introduced the Green Party to the residents who would not have had any previous literature from Green Party, but they do have Greening Wymondham, a group that is very green minded.
Joe Barrett narrowly missed getting elected by 70 votes but both he and his father Paul Barrett got elected as Town Councillors which was great.
Within a couple of months they got a motion passed to declare a Climate Emergency and created a group called Sustainable Wymondham.

Victoria Walters fought HIngham seat. We delivered our first newsletter as South Norfolk Green Party.
