A win in Bunwell ward

Bunwell District by-election

On Thursday 2nd May 2024

Suzanne Wateridge was elected District Councillor for Bunwell ward!

Due to the sad death of the incumbent Stephen Ridley we had a by-election in Bunwell (see map below)

We are delighted that Suzanne Wateridge who lives in nearby Tivetshall St. Margeret, right on the edge of the ward, won this hard fought campaign. It gives us our first seat on South Norfolk DIstrict Council and means the Tories no longer have overall control of the authority.

Suzanne received 404 votes, while her Tory rival Charles Easton took 394. Mike Crouch, for Labour, received 131 and Trevor Wenman, the two-time major of Diss and Liberal Democrat candidate, took 68.

Suzanne moved to south Norfolk with her family seven years ago and was the only candidate not to have previously stood in the district.

She said: “I’ve really enjoyed going door to door meeting residents in the four villages of the ward. I’m looking forward to representing them and holding the Conservative-run council to account. It’s very clear from my conversations on the doorstep that people have been put off politics because they feel that they are not listened to. I aim to change that.”

Bunwell ward is in the Waveney Valley constituency where Adrian Ramsay is a national Green Party target for MP. So this was a crucial campaign!
