solar farms across south norfolk

Solar energy can contribute to national energy security. helping break our dependence on expensive imports of gas and oil, which are making our energy the most expensive in Europe.

Industrial roof spaces, barns and warehouses, car parks, church roofs, schools, hospitals and many terraced streets all have suitable roof spaces for large scale solar installations. We recognise that ground mounted solar can be a helpful supplementary income for farmers, and also allow soil to regenerate and improve biodiversity and soil microbes.

A fair mix of energy sources would see some solar farms, and these can benefit local communities if they support energy for local businesses or schools and homes. We are working to get a better strategic approach to where solar installations should be located. The East of England is desirable, and should stand to gain economically from energy farming, because of our sunshine bonus! But let’s also keep some traditional landscapes where we can enjoy the view.

In May 2025, Green County Councillor for West Depwade Catherine Rowett brought a motion to Full Council to combat the chaos of the speculative and inappropriate energy applications that are not being coordinated. Read about the motion, and watch the speeches: more information on Catherine’s facebook page.
