Green Party Town Councillor Joe Barrett (26) has resigned from his role after 18 months. During his time in office he worked on a range of important issues, from planning and governance to sustainability and neurodiversity; and led work on the new cemetery. He also declared a climate emergency, launching the Sustainable Wymondham group to develop a community-led Climate Emergency Strategy.
Joe says “Serving as a Councillor has been an immense privilege, but due to health reasons, I have made the difficult decision to step down. I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve achieved, from championing neurodiversity and mental health to leading efforts on sustainability and planning. I want to thank the residents of Wymondham for their trust in me, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to our community in new ways.”
South Norfolk Green Party stated “We support Joe’s difficult decision to resign in light of health concerns—as a Party, we put people at the heart of our politics, and that includes both the public and our Councillors”.
